Objective: To review the literature on the physiological particularities of Black
skin and their implications for the diagnosis and treatment of wounds within the
Family Health Strategy. Method: A systematic review with narrative synthesis
and cross-sectional design, using a qualitative approach. The research question
was structured according to the Population, Exposure, Comparison, Outcome stra-
tegy. Searches were conducted using Health Sciences Descriptors in the PubMed,
Elsevier, University of Brasília Journals Portal, Scientific Electronic Library Online,
and Wounds International databases, following the recommendations of the Pre-
ferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Results: Six
studies were included and appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute instrument.
Findings indicated higher collagen density, greater cellular compaction, lower
ceramide concentration, increased transepidermal water loss, and a more intense
inflammatory response in Black skin, as well as difficulties in identifying clinical
signs. Conclusion: Physiological differences influence lesion presentation and
prognosis, highlighting the need for specific guidelines to promote equity in Pri-
mary Health Care.
