Abstract

Objective: To analyze nurses' knowledge about Negative Pressure Therapy (TPN) as an influence in the treatment of patients with complex wounds in a hospital institution in Belo Horizonte / MG. Methodology: This is a quantitative cross-sectional observational study conducted in November 2018 at a private hospital in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, with 35 nurses working at the Hospitalization Units through a structured questionnaire with multiple choice closed questions. Results: Predominated female professionals, with an age group under 30 years old, training in a private institution, with a focus on the theme "Treatment of Wounds" in the undergraduate program. Most have training and experience between 5 and 20 years, provide reasonable assistance to patients using TPN and have training only in service training. The assertions of the questionnaire applied predominated the minority, however, on relevant issues such as mechanism of action, advantages of therapy and care with the pressure device. Subjects such as composition of the equipment, frequency of use, time of exchange and indication of therapy did not reach the minimum score defined for this study. Conclusions: There was a limitation of nurses' knowledge as an influence on the treatment of patients using NPT, given the reasonable care given to this type of dressing.
